As a cognitive therapist I specialize in treating depression, anxiety disorders, OCD, PTSD and Adult AD(H)D. People from all walks of life can benefit from individual therapy. The TA, CBT and DBT methods I use are based on scientific principles that have been demonstrated to be effective for a wide range of problems. In the process of therapy, I will work with you to identify and understand your problems and goals in terms of the relationship between your thoughts, feelings and behaviors. Unlike some of the other talk therapies, the CBT/DBT approach I utilize focuses on your difficulties and aspirations in the "here and now," instead of focusing on the causes of your distress or symptoms in the past. That is, CBT/DBT involves a systematic approach to looking for ways to help you improve your state of mind and begin working toward achieving your personal and relationship goals now. This then leads to identification of personalized, usually time-limited therapy goals and strategies, which are continually monitored and evaluated.
CBT/DBT treatments are inherently empowering in nature, the outcome being to focus on specific psychological and practical skills aimed at enabling you to achieve your goals and tackle your problems by harnessing your own resources now and in the future. The acquisition and utilization of such skills is seen as the main goal of therapy, and the active component in promoting change with an emphasis on putting what you learn in therapy into practice between sessions. Thus, the overall aim is for you to attribute improvement in your problems and progress toward your goals to your own understanding, skills, and efforts derived from the therapeutic process.
